• Who are you?

VIDA bioenergy is a subsidiary that is 100% owned by VTTI, dedicated to transforming biomass into renewable energy. VIDA bioenergy is committed to providing clean energy products such as biomethane, biogenic CO2, and organic fertiliser, supporting the decarbonisation of buildings, heavy transport, and industrial heat.

  • What are Anaerobic Digestion (AD) plants?

Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Plants provide a sustainable and effective way of recycling local farming byproducts into green energy. Instead of leaving agricultural residues and manure to decay in the open air, slowly releasing the potent greenhouse gas methane into the atmosphere, they are transported to digester tanks. Micro-organisms in the tanks breakdown these materials, similar to processes that occur naturally in some soils and ocean basins. This process produces biogas, a mixture primarily made of methane and carbon dioxide, as well as a nutrient-rich digestate, which can be used as an organic fertiliser. The biogas is then upgraded to remove impurities, producing pure biomethane. This can be injected into the grid and used to generate electricity, heat or vehicle fuel. It thereby reduces our dependence on the combustion of fossil fuels. AD Plants have a positive impact on the environment and play a vital role in our aim to reach net-zero.

  • What about odours from food waste?

No food waste will be processed in this AD plant, meaning no excess odour will be created from food waste handling.

  • What about the feedstock mix?

All of the feedstock will be agricultural waste and products such as maize and straw.

  • Where is the feedstock sourced from?

We source all of our feedstock locally, helping to create a circular economy.

  • What happens to the digestate?

The nutrient-rich digestate that remains after biogas production is a valuable organic fertiliser. It can be applied to farmland to improve soil health, enhance crop growth, and close the nutrient loop. Using digestate reduces the need for chemical fertilisers, further supporting sustainable farming practices.
